Thoughts on Life & Growing Up

As I sit here drinking my green smoothie on this gorgeous Friday morning, I've been thinking about life & the lessons I've learned about growing up.

Angelo and I are very young. I was 17 when we first met and he was 19. We've been together for 7 years. I'll leave it at that, you guys can do the math. :) We've been living together for a year and a half in a craftsman style bungalow with our 2 year pup Layla. We've been engaged for a year and are currently (finally) planing a weekend wedding getaway. We have 2 nephews, 6 & 3, who truly light up our world, we enjoy hosting any type of party where we can serve our guests with yummy home cooked meals, slow Sunday mornings is our jam right now on the living room couch chatting about life, we love to garden, we enjoy making our house feel like a home and we love working hard.

I've always enjoyed being independent and doing things my own way, with that said, I decided to not go to school, instead I opened up my own business at the age of 19. Crazy, huh? Angelo graduated from BU with a degree in business, my brother & brother-in-law ran a landscaping business for a few years and my mother ran a daycare for 15 years in our home. So, I am a lucky gal who has a handful of business experts by my side. Aside from wedding photography, I am also a Motherhood photographer. I document Mother's all over the country and create beautiful books for them, also know as "My Motherhood Story". You can learn all about it here.
My dream in life is to raise a big family (we want 4 kids HA! We'll see how that goes ;)) that is loved dearly; I hope to make an impact on my children's lives and hope to inspire them to be fearless and to lead a life with happiness & love.  I mean, who doesn't want that for their children, right? <3

Angelo is hard working guy. He enjoys inspiring others to work hard, especially our age group, where going to Coachella and going out to bars all weekend isn't the only thing in life right now. That it is okay to want to work hard and set up your life for success even at the age of 26. The first thing people say to us is, "Wow! You guys are so young! We thought you were older! You should be having fun in life right now."  We are actually having a blast in life! We have a clear vision of what we want in life and that is raising a family with a comfortable lifestyle. Aside from wedding photography, Angelo is a wealth adviser. His passion is setting up families with the life of their dreams, guiding small business's to run a happy & successful business and to help seniors citizens live a fulfilling life on a retirement plan. What makes Angelo unique in his field is that he truly cares about whoever he is working with. He has such a big heart! I'm so lucky to be sharing my life with him by my side.

Now that you have a clear background on who are we are...I want to get real with ya for a moment. It has been a bit of a struggle for us to get to where we are.  For some reason it was hard for us to be okay with our little life.

Moving in with Angelo was not easy. It was hard for us to get in a rhythm together. We liked to eat at different times, we wouldn't always agree on the same meal, dividing up house chores was not an easy task, we had different opinions on how we should spend & save our money and so on. It got easier! Much easier. There were definitely a lot of slamming doors before it got easier....but we are finally at a happy place. Soooo I just wanted to share with you some tips that helped smooth things out for us. I know our tips won't work for everyone butttttt maybe one or two will.

Here's a list of changes that made ourselves & our home happy.

  • Doing a little each day goes a long way. We set a timer for 15 minutes everyday to pick up our home. I like to do it in the morning, Ang kind of does it whenever he wants after work / dinner.

  • Binge watching Netflix is only fun once in a blue moon. In fact I just read an article where binge watching is extremely unhealthy for you and your brain...I mean DUH! I can attest to that because we binged watched House of Cards on Sunday and on Monday I was a hot mess; I was so tired, I had low self esteem, I was negative and I didn't want to do a thing. So instead if binge watching we have nights set where we watch our shows together for 1-2 hours. No more than that! And not every weeknight. On the weekends the rules can bend a bit.

  • We try our hardest to cook at home & to only eat out / do takeout on the weekends or for a special occasion.  It's healthier, we save money and it becomes a special little treat when we do go out. We use meal a delivery service such as Green Chef to make cooking easier. For lunches we either do leftovers, wraps or salads.

  • We try to drink a smoothie everyday. Not good with this? We've used Green Blender in the past. We loved it but decided that is it wasn't smart with our budget for the time being. But we still use their recipes!

  • We put a glass of water out at night and drink it first thing when we wake up. Your body becomes very dehydrated after sleeping for 8 hours. (This has been a game changer for me!)

  • We go to bed at the same time every night during the week. We crawl into bed at around 10:30. We either read, talk about our day or write in a journal.

  • We've been putting our cell phones in another room when we go into bed. This has been one of the best choices we've made in a really long time. We now feel like a couple going to rest instead of roommates. We we're obsessed with our phones and would ignore each other before bed.

  • We have a schedule for our chores. Wednesday is grocery day, Thursday & Sunday laundry day and Friday is cleaning day. I'm still working on laundry....I suck at it. As I am typing there are 5 baskets in the guest room filled with unfolded clean clothes. They've been there for over a week now. AGH!

  • We try to spend time with family and friends separately. I think it's important to visit your parents without your significant other. We also try to go on trips without each other too. I don't know my reasoning behind this... I just think it's healthy to still be your own person even when you're in a committed relationship.

  • Exercise- Angelo is better at this than me, but I try to do something physical each day...cleaning counts ;)

  • Set rituals- Sunday mornings are just for us. We stay in bed a bit longer & enjoy a cup of coffee on our porch, in our living room or in our backyard. We also like to make a hearty breakfast, something different from our usual. When we're feeling adventurous we go for a Sunday morning drive. This is extremely important to us; we both run our own business's so it is really easy for our days to be busy & packed with meetings. Angelo is out of the house a lot and the weeks where I don't see him often I reassure myself knowing that I'll have him all to my self on Sunday morning.

  • Communication- we struggle with this but when we do it, life is goooood.

I hope that this post somehow inspires you! Our tips aren't for everyone, this is just what works for us right now and maybe something will work for you too. Do you have any tips? Comment below!

One Year Ago Today

I woke up this morning to a warm kiss on my cheek and a whisper in my ear, "One year ago today you said yes." Wow. Yup. One year ago today Angelo got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. A moment I will truly never ever forget. Everything in my world paused. It was so silent. I felt weightless. It was only him and I at that particular moment and for the following 3 days. When it happened I was nervous laughing the whole entire time with tears steaming down my face along with me waving my hands in front my face saying "No, no, no no no!" I do that when I'm nervous and so in shock. OOPS! No, but he knew from the moment he met me that I wanted to marry him.

Our first in person interaction I knew that he was going to be my husband even though he completely ignored me. I just knew it! Our relationship started on Facebook HA! And then finally a year later I asked him out on a date. YUP! We went and saw the first Hangover which was the best first date movie everrrrrr. We laughed non-stop.

Our first kiss was to Lil Wayne.
My necklace broke on our second date and he kept the heart locket and he still has it. I didn't know he did that until 2 years later.
Also on our second date I saw a shooting star and wished for him.
He was scared to kiss me because my father was a private investigator for the state of CT. No pressure Ang!
What has kept our relationship so strong is family. Both of our parents are truly the best people in the whole wide world and made us both feel so special as individuals.

Every day we talk about how excited we are for this life together. It really is exciting! We're both working so hard for our little family. We have the same dreams & interest.

90% of the time I want kill but the other 10% I love him so much I really can't hand it. Numbers are exaggerated of course. ;)

We are really awesome at planning weddings...... LOL no! We haven't even started and it's been a year. Whoops! Our plan to to tackle the wedding planning during our trip to CA.

I am the luckiest to have him by my side, our love is truly crazy love.

7 months later we celebrated our engagement with close friends & family. Another incredible day we will never forget.

Page & Peter || Romantic St. Clements Castle Wedding

Page & Peter- their the kind of couple you want to constantly surround yourself with. Their hearts are made of pure gold and there is something about them that makes you so grateful for your life. You would honestly never hear one negative word come out of their mouths.

We captured Page & Peter's engagement session in Fall 2014- the 4 of us instantly clicked. The connection the four of us had was something similar to hanging out with old friends you haven't seen in years. I'm kind of convinced that Page and I were sister's many lifetimes ago. Throughout the year we all got together for cocktails, a laid back dinner or house tours. In fact we rang in the New Year together- all of us so excited for 2015 knowing it would be a great year. And man, it was. The year they got married and the year Angelo asked me to be his wife.

Their wedding is our definition of a dream wedding. As we were heading over to Page's parents house I had butterflies. Not nervous butterflies, the kind of butterflies you get for someone you really care about. I was so nervously excited for Page! I knew all the feels she was feeling that day because we've been talking about it non-stop over the course of months. Both of their families welcomed us into their homes with open arms. Page and Peter were sooooo laid back on their wedding day. They just did their thing without even worrying about us and we did our thing and captured it all. And that's what we love as photographers- candid real moments. That's how their whole wedding was.

I can write a novel on these two so I am going to stop myself now and get to the fun part- pictures!

My Love

It has been one amazing year with this guy by my side. The year he asked me to his forever love, the year he made a big career change for our family. He works 72 hour weeks so I have the luxury to be home and focus on our business. He's sweet, he's kind & he loves family. He knows how to make me smile and he knows exactly what to do when I'm feeling low. He pushes me everyday to be a strong, independent successful person which isn't always easy but I know he is doing it out of the goodness of his heart. I'm not easy to live with (ha!!!) I guess you can say I am very neurotic when it comes to certain things. I'm not one for boasting about my realtionshp; it has never really been my thing. I keep this stuff private. But damn, I had such a good week with this guy I just can't keep it in!

(first and last sappy post this year.....maybe.....until our wedding day

Bianca & Bill | Southport, CT Engagement

Bianca- the sweetest, most adorable women that you will ever meet with a laugh that makes you feel happy.
Bill- I have no other words to say about him than gentle and kind hearted. Put these two humans together and WHOA magic happens!

Not too long before our session Bianca's sweet grandmother passed away to the heavens, so at the end of our shoot we took a moment with red rose petals to say hello to grandma and show her love. It was incredible.

We cannot wait to shoot their beautiful wedding!

Our Engagement Party

A few hours being 'stuck' in the same place with all of the people that means so much to us....it's a wonderful feeling. A feeling that can't really be described. You kind of feel like you're on top of a mountain and the winds are whispering wonderful things about you. Ha!! In the middle of the party Angelo made a gratitude speech and as I was standing next to him everything was so silent. I looked around and looked at every person in the crowd and knowing every single person at a personal level, everyone was there for us, to celebrate Angelo and I together the love we have for one another. As I'm typing this I feel like I am back at that moment because my desktop background is the group photo. I've never been happier in my entire life than I am today and it makes me really uncomfortable for me to say that or to admit it. I truly feel lucky, and I repeat in my head every night before bed, "My life is so literally the perfect life I've dreamt of, I'm scared something is going to happen to ruin it."

Simple. Elegant. Romantic || Styled Shoot

One winters night Angelo and I came home from date night with friends to our 1 year old puppy, Layla. We were both so excited to see her and her warm happy welcome she always gives us. But we didn't get the greeting we were use to. She was being shy on the couch. I found 2 white feathers in the living room, one in the dining room, and 3 on the stairs. I look over at Layla and she books it upstairs to the bedroom. Angelo and I looked at each other like, "What the heck?!?" We followed her upstairs to find her on our bed on top of a pile feathers. Her face was so cute and SO guilty! She tore apart one of our down pillows resulting in feathers everywhere. We were not happy to pick up 5,000 feathers at 1AM but during that moment I had a creative vision, and this shoot is the exact vision I had.

Could not have done it without all of these incredible ladies!

Intimate Riviera Maya Mexico Wedding || Jessica & Daniel

She did her own makeup.
Her best friend curled her hair.
She spent her wedding morning with her soon-to-be husband in their king sized bed in their beautiful hotel room, that had balcony that looked out to the Caribbean Sea.

They said "I Do" in front of 35 close friends and family.
The day was sweet, filled with a lot of love and everything the bride dreamt of.

"I could never find the words to explain how lucky I am to share my life with you. Whether you're making me laugh until I cry, challenging me in arguments and discussions, or spending Sunday mornings cooking breakfast with me, I am so grateful for every little moment. You are my favorite person in the whole world."- Words by the bride of her groom

Congratulations Jessica & Dan, Angelo and I are SO incredibly lucky to have captured your beautiful day and to call you friends. xox

Real Talk

We go 2 weeks without grocery shopping sometimes and hunt for food in the pantry and fridge. Our bananas and salad greens rot way too quickly, or we just don't eat them fast enough. Our backyard looks like a jungle. I forget laundry in the washer to the point where it becomes moldy. We just installed our AC downstairs....last night...summer is almost over. Our toilets bowls get rings. We forget to take the garbage out on trash night at least twice a month.

We are not perfect. No one is. But we put all of those things aside and spend time with one another & family. We work non-stop so we can provide and save for our future family. We rarely go out on fancy dinner dates because we love to stay home with our dog.

Life can be overwhelming and hard to keep up with the latest and greatest things, but with us, love & family always comes first. I love doing life with this guy. And strangers think we're brother and sister. We say we are and then french kiss.

Now Offering, Boudoir Sessions

I've been keeping a secret for quite some time.....I am now offering boudoir session, also know as Bisou Sessions, with a kickass group of women. I've been shooting these special sessions for a couple of years now on the DL- this past January while I was shooting a boudoir session I experienced energy that I've never experienced before. We were in an old stamp factory with tall ceilings, exposed wood beams, white brick walls, wood floors, and huge windows that filled the space with natural light. We danced, we laughed, we were telling inappropriate jokes, we ate a nosh and drank a little too much champagne. I've never seen self confidence the way I saw it that day nor never witness such beautiful support from all of the women there.

I left the shoot feeling alive and wanting more and I wasn't the only one who was feeling that way. That's when it occurred to me to that I couldn't just be doing this once a year, I needed more. And more women should feel the way all the women felt that day.

I teamed up with two close friends, Madeline who is the set stylists, and Allie who is the wardrobe stylist and together we created something we believe every women should experience. Say hello to Bisou Session- a boutique boudoir experience for the women who wants to treat herself. Simply click here to learn more about it.

Date Night Gone Wrong

Life has been a bit crazy! I went on a picnic with my little family yesterday to get away from the crazy. I was dreaming about it all day. Just veggin' on the grass smelling the roses, eating sweet strawberries and connecting with Angelo without any distractions. Well, it ended up being a HOT mess. Layla was not behaving literally jumping / barking / yelling at every human / dog / bunny / leaf she saw. This was suppose to be a time for us to relax and get away from the mess in our house (piles of laundry, books and mail on every flat surface) but noooooppppe. Ugh, Layla we love you but seriously girl....what the heck?!

Snap by Angelo from yesterday. Pretty sure Layla was sizing a bunny here.

One of the Best Days, Ever

Take a peek into one of the best days of my life….
We were off on a little road trip to Hollywood. We made a 3 hour pit stop in Laguna beach, one of our favorite spots in Southern California.
We grabbed some coffee & took a walk on a path above the beach.
We enjoyed the beautiful views. Listened to the waves, watched the birds fly and smelt flowers.

Now we are in Hollywood! Right before dinner we took a “hike” to Griffith Observatory. The view and sunset there was to diiiiiieeeeee for! Little did I know there was a photographer following us during our time here.

Pictures below taken by the beautiful Christine of Christine Bartolucci Photography.

Of course. What better way to celebrate with some breakfast in bed? Not pictured- my stack of buttery pancakes.

Some iPhone Snaps

After the proposal (BAHHH!!) we ate at the beautiful
Yamashiro Hollywood Japanese fusion restaurant.
Look at the view we had! Best seat in the hoouse.

LOVEFEST || NEXT DAY PREVIEW

Okay, I really couldn’t share just a few from this past weekend.
This feels more like a full blog post….but I promise you it isn’t. There is SO much more to share from this magical weekend.
What is the “LoveFest”?
It’s awesome, that’s what it is.
Dating for over 13 years with a babyboy in the oven, Maddie & Jordan decided to celebrate their love in such a beautiful selfless way.
It starts with A short and sweet ceremony,
followed by endless amounts of delicious food from Whisk + Brush, a pizza & burrito truck,
followed by pool lounging, yard games,
and a whole lotta love from close friends and family.

A weekend to never forget.
